Dorian Gray Set for a 2009 Release

Fans of the book Dorian Gray have been waiting patiently for this. Now, their beloved book is set to hit theaters as a deliciously dark film in 2009. It’s already generating a great deal of online buzzery, from those who have read the book to those who never knew the book existed. Ben Barnes, who you’ll recognize as Prince Caspian in the second (and upcoming third) Chronicles of Narnia movie, will star in the role as Dorian Gray.
For those unfamiliar with the book, here’s a quick synopsis. A young man (Dorian Gray) loves himself some self. He sees a painting of himself and decides that, quite frankly, he has to find a way to always look like he does in the painting.
He finds a way to do just that. He stops aging! Yet, as his seedy lifestyle drags on, the image in the painting starts rotting away - looking quite worse for wear. Oddly enough, the man himself doesn’t age a bit.
Colin Firth will play the role of Lord Henry Wotton - a corruptable man who corrupts young Dorian. He’s got his whole dastardly on judging by the photo above.
The rest of the cast includes: Rebecca Hall (Emily Wotton), Emilia Fox (Lady Victoria Wooton), Ben Chaplin, Rachel Hurd-Wood (Sybil Vane), Fiona Shaw, Maryam D’Abo, Pip Torrens, Douglas Henshall, Caroline Goodall, Michael Culkin, Johnny Harris and Max Irons.
With the exceptions of Colin Firth and Ben Barnes, this is a cast that I’m not all that familiar with. Fiona Shaw played a judge in the AMAZING movie Fracture and she’s Aunt Petunia Dursley in the Harry Potter movies - so I’m at least aware of who she is.
